Farewell but Never Goodbye
by tuneup on Dec.31, 2014, under info
Farewell my friends!
We all know I love Tune-Up, it’s staff and it’s customers so I’ll keep this short and sweet! I just wanted to write a quick good bye as this Friday (2nd Jan) marks my last ever shift behind the bar at Tune-Up after almost 2 years!
Before you all start cracking open the champagne to celebrate the thought of never having to put up with me again on your night out I must inform you I am not leaving Tune-Up. As some of you know my partner and I are expecting a baby and so I will be doing some behind the scenes work from now on to make Tune-Up a bigger and better place for you all! 2014 was a great year with lots of new changes and not to mention all new staff and I know 2015 will be even better!
I just wanted to thank /most/ of you for being so great and making work not only bearable but enjoyable and to the rest of you so long! I will be missing you all but I know it won’t be anywhere near as much as you’ll miss me!
With that said make sure you all have a drink on me this New Years Eve (seeing as I can’t!) I wish you all a very happy New Year and hope to see you all Friday for one last hoorah!
Much love,
Laura
Ps. If you have any great ideas or some changes you’d like to see in Tune-Up shoot me an email at laura@tune-up.net.au and we’ll make it happen!
I don’t care.

Hi Guys,
Kats here. The end of 2014 is nearly here and I hope you all had a great year!
For me 2014 is different from any previous years. Yeah I had brain surgery – first experience in my life.
It was actually a good opportunity for me to think everything through deeper and I found when I was sick I appreciated and thanked everyone and everything.
It has now been 8 months since I had my first surgery and I have slowly recovered, I am now back to 69% of my full condition.
Now I can work every day, I can drink a little bit and I can do light exercise but nothing too heavy.
Despite having had this opportunity for deeper thinking, I found that as I regained better physical condition I began taking easier way and easier thinking again.
I started forgetting how much I should have appreciated things going on around me when I was sick … yeah.. I am still simple and silly… unfortunately.
Now I need to remind myself of those days in my hospital bed and what I thought and felt during that time.
As I am born in 69, my life is almost at a half way point and it is a time for me to work more for others.
I don’t care what people think about me but I do care about people.
Tune-Up is a little hidden party house in Surfers Paradise and ultimately my purpose is to see how much you guys are having fun here with our Tune-Up crue.
I thank you all for 2014 and wish you happy New Year for 2015!!
Until next time, lets keep on going!

Hello fellow Tune-up goers! Emily here, reporting for bar duty.
For those who are yet to meet me I’m the new lass behind the alcohol (sometimes) with the oddly coloured hair (all times) and giant glasses.
I’m one of Tune-Up’s newbie staff given the awesome opportunity to work at the best (and only…shhhhh) karaoke bar in surfers. I’m going on two months at Tune-Up and still loving every minute. Going to work doesn’t feel like working and I meet more interesting people and make more friends than a night out of clubbing ever could.
I’m from a small country town smack bam in the middle of Queensland (Barcaldine for those of you with google maps). I worked in a bar there for just over eleven months. Coming to work was like getting paid to socialise and have a good time (and I got to skip the hangover that usually follows). I loved the people I worked with and the customers were family. When I moved to the Gold Coast and started job hunting I didn’t expect to find a similar atmosphere. It was Surfers Paradise after all, I expected to get a job in a club were the only time I would get to talk to customers was when they were screaming their drink order out over the music. At Tune-Up I never stop meeting new people and making new friends! I’m not the only one either. Our kooky bar seems to be a hub of new friendships. After belting your heart out in front of someone, it’s pretty easy to move onto conversation from there!
Tune-Up has that “something” that makes it an amazing place for both staff and customers alike. An ever growing family, one everyone is welcome to become a part of. It’s an all-round good night out and a chance to show all present how fantastic you are on the microphone! A night out here is sure to be a memorable one, so I hope to see you on my next shift!
Let’s have fun and make fools of ourselves on the microphone together! See you soon!
Emily =)
Night at Tune-Up

Hi Guys
So a big question I get at work is what is it like working at tune-up. It is such a broad question of course with any job you have pros and cons but the pros definitively out way the cons. I’ve been with tune-up for over a year now. I wouldn’t be able to work some where for this long otherwise. I thought I would do a little video for you everyone of the fun times and the different kinds of people who come here.
I hope you like.
Georgie xoxo
Always look on the bright side of life ~ Monty Python
by tuneup on Sep.30, 2014, under info
If life seems jolly rotten,
There’s something you’ve forgotten,
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you’re feeling in the dumps,
Don’t be silly chumps,
Just purse your lips and whistle,
– that’s the thing.
And…always look on the bright
side of life…
I am currently sitting in my bed at 3 in the afternoon demolishing a whole bag of M&M’s pondering on what I’m going to write, and yes… this is as exciting as my day gets.
The other day something clicked; I was craving a change!
It’s so easy for all of us to get caught up in the negativity of life that we are so constantly bombarded with through the news and social media.
Recently, I’ve found it more difficult to break out of the pattern of negativity but now I have solution to finding happiness and would love to share it with all you Tune Up fans!
I have come up with a little quote which I have pinned up on my bedroom ceiling so it’s the first thing I see when I wake up. I live by it and use it to push me closer and closer towards being positive and happy with who I am and the life that revolves around me.
“Accept the fact that everything that makes up your world as it is there because you attracted it with your own thoughts.
Realise that you can control your own thoughts and emotions.
There’s no big secret, just choose to think better feeling thoughts.
Listen to your emotions and choose to feel good,
And you can decide to be in a place of attraction and abundance.
Stop looking for reasons why you can’t and look for reasons why you can, and if you can you should.”
So there it is I hope I’ve made someone’s day, there’s still hope in the world and good people out there. So make your time count!
Cara xxx
I’m back!

Hey guys, it’s Laura here.
Some of you might remember me from my previous time spent at Tune-Up last year. I resigned after being offered a job at another bar and have returned 8 months later as I just missed Kats and the girls too much!
Although I liked my time working at other venues I realized there were lots of things I missed about Tune-Up. I missed working for a small business where my input and ideas where heard, I missed working in a small team of wonderful girls, I missed our regulars and being able to leave behind the bar to chat and sing with customers.
After hearing that Bec and Georgie were going to be leaving the bar to jet set around the world and Kats being unwell I accepted to fill in some shifts when necessary and eventually stayed on full time.
It’s been great catching up with all the old regulars and hearing about what they’ve been up to for the past year as well as meeting all our new regulars and getting to know them. Not only did I come back to new customers there was a whole new team! All the girls I’d previously grown to know and love had moved on and there were 4 new girls in their place! All the new girls have contributed so much to Tune-Up and I feel so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive team once again… and our team is still growing! As some of you know we’ve been searching for a 5th Tune-Up girl and would just like to thank all the lovely ladies that took their time coming in for interviews and trials. So make sure you keep your eyes peeled for a new staff member soon!
It’s great to be back and working a job I absolutely love with a boss and girls who I adore! Thank you to the girls, Kats and all our customers for making Tune-Up a second home for myself and everyone else that passes through our door.
Cats Keep Tune-Up Going

Hi Guys, Kats here.
I haven’t come to this blog site for ages as I unexpectedly completely lost my health. Well that was a scary moment for me. February this year I found I had something wrong with my eye sight however whilst at the eye institute in Southport they found the problem was not with my eyes. The doctor said that I’d definitely need a surgery on my brain.. “WhAt tHe FUck!!”. I remember I couldn’t do anything at all that day… being a completely weak man. My surgery was booked 2 months later and I was to stay at the hospital for another 2 months for recovery. Once I got home I’d occasionally struggled with a headache so I went back to the hospital to see the doctor twice. Now finally the headaches that kept annoying me had gone and I feel more of my confidence returning in last couple of weeks.
It has been a quite long journey, but I still feel lucky as lots of people cared about me and helped me. If something happens we always have to worry about family, work etc… and one of the lucky things for me being a little business owner, I’ve found people whom I like to work with. One day in the hospital a friend of mine visited, he asked me if I had watched a movie “Coyote Ugly” I had never heard the movie and said “No, why?” he said “You should watch it, the movie reminds me of your bar Tune-Up” The movie is a sort of success story about a girl who is dreaming to be a song writer in New York and working at the bar named Coyote Ugly where the bar girls are performing sexy shows on the bar counter. It is a good movie and of course we don’t do the same kind of performance at Tune-Up but we do have some similarities. Also we don’t employ Coyotes but we do employ Cats!! I’ve found the hard working cats and they are always serious to seek to have a great time at the bar.
After coming back from hospital I found these Tune-Up Cats created few new little things at the bar but these little things seem to be quite big changes to make our bar keep on going and eventually keep all regulars and customers being happy as well. I’ve found that in business, to keep a good relationship with customers it should be a kind of like keeping relationship with your friends. You are not going to beg them to be your friends or being arrogant to your friends. If they are in trouble you help them, if you are in trouble and they help you, and always expect and try to improve each other. I am hoping our Tune-Up crue will always be like that with you guys at Tune-Up.
The last 6 months made me think a lot about everything… I must have changed my approach to the life in someway, you could say I have been little bit more settled. We have only 1 life, expecting to have a fun and enjoyable time is good, but having a terrible experience may bring a better result?!! What do you think?
I thank you all who care about me and help us at Tune-Up. Until next time, lets keep on going!
Tune-Up….. Bringing Paradise to Surfers
by tuneup on Jul.10, 2014, under info
Hi everyone! Cara here…
Some of you may know me and some may not, so firstly I’d like to introduce myself as a new cruë member of the Tune Up bar & Karaoke Studio. I
I’ve just about hit my 4th month of working for Tune-Up, alongside the best staff and have been a new breath of fresh air for all the regulars that we see from time to time during the week.
I’m loving every minute of it and hope I am making a difference within the business and people’s lives. Not many people can admit the fact that they love their job like I do. But the reason is obvious, I absolutely adore the girls I work with and I have developed an amazing rapport with the loyal Tune- Up Customers. And this is what makes this place so dam special!
Soo.. on another note, I recently read an article in the Gold Coast Bulletin about how trashy and disgusting Surfers Paradise has become. When I came across this article I felt a little bit ashamed that one of the best places on the Gold Coast has gained such a bad reputation. Surfers Paradise is suppose to be our most popular tourist destination, how is it possible that we have let our beautiful central spot become so horribly thought of. But in my opinion, this is a closed minded perspective. Surfers Paradise is our number 1 hot spot because of the diverse range of business, luxuries and opportunities. It is those small, unique treasures that make Surfers Paradise the ideal tourist spot. And like our small but friendly bar, hidden away in the chaos of mujmSurfers Paradise, it is one of many treasures that has people coming back time and time again. So please don’t judge a book by its cover, Surfers paradise has so much more to offer then you could imagine.
On a brighter note I definitely believe Tune Up bar is great for its uniqueness and that’s what makes this place so enjoyable. It would be ideal and perfect if you want to have a good night out and actually embrace the atmosphere.
I mean… Who wouldn’t want to smash out some of the best hits of all time while having a cold beverage and mingling with some of the best people!
So come visit our paradise right in the heart of Surfers!
Leaving on a Jet Plane

Hello my wild, crazy, fun, amazing Tunestars!!! It’s Bec here….for the very last time….can you believe it!!??
If you don’t already know….after 4 years of working at Tune-Up, I am spreading my wings and jetting off around Europe and America before setting myself up in the UK to start a new life on the other side of the world (for a couple of years anyway!)
So on that note, it seems this is goodbye for me!! Don’t get your tissues out and start smudging your mascara yet though because I don’t see this as a sad time….in fact it’s a very happy, exciting and exhilarating time for not only me but for all of the Tune-Up crew and all of you! The reason I say this is because CHANGE should always be viewed as a positive thing. It’s what keeps us going through life. We are not trees; we can’t stay rooted in the same place forever. Hence why I am digging up my roots and heading on out of here. And for you guys, change will come in the form of some gorgeous new Tune-Up girls and a slightly different culture at Tune-Up…because as you all know, Tune-Up’s culture is determined by our amazing staff and I promise you….all of the girls here new and old are INCREDIBLE and they are going to help Tune-Up evolve for the better. And I have a feeling Kats is going to come back with a new perspective on life and his business so I’d say there are exciting things to come from that wise and wonderful man!
With only just over a week until I pack my bags and leave Australia, I’ve started conducting a very detailed bucket list of MUST-DO’s when I go overseas, so I thought I’d share them with you all, and maybe when you all come in to say goodbye this week, you can help me add a few more!:
- Eat a baguette while riding a bicycle through Paris
- Have a spaghetti fight in the middle of the street in Italy
- Have a real-life sword battle at the Coliseum in Rome (much like the one between Prince Oberyn and The Mountain in Game of Thrones…minus the horrific death)
- Steal the Mona Lisa and sell it for squillions to help fund my extravagant new life when I return to Australia.
- Hunt down Taylor Swift in America and become best friends with her.
- Swing from the top of the point on the Empire State building like King Kong.
- Make snow angels in Central Park in NYC
While only one or two of these are realistic, I’m going to try my best to tick them all off my list!
So on a final note, I want to thank you all for making my time at Tune-Up SO unbelievably enjoyable. It’s YOU guys that have made this job so rewarding. Nothing makes me more happy thank knowing that I’ve helped make someone’s night. That’s a feeling I’m really going to miss…
And a big thank you to the amazing Tune-Up girls…the ones who were here in the beginning and the ones who are here to see me go. I have made some life-long friends from this job (some who I’ll even be meeting up with overseas) and it’s rare to find a job like this where you can make friends who stay in your life for a long time.
And last but not least, I owe the world to the one and only Kats-man. He took me in like a lost stray pup 4 years ago and contributed to so much of my growth throughout that time! I don’t know what I’ll do without his crazy but incredible logical life metaphors. I know I’ll still be emailing him for his insights on the many life decision I have ahead of me. Haha.
So with that, I have no more words left in me so I’ll be a cliché’ and finish with lyrics from a song….
In the words of John Denver:
“I’m leavin’ on a jet plane, Don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh Tune-Up, I hate to go”

Bonjour Tunestars!! It’s two of your favourite Senorita’s Bec and Georgie!
Why is it, you ask, that we are speaking in such exotic EUROPEAN languages??? Ummmmm because within the next month we’re BOTH going to…EUROPPPPE….OMGGG!
A wise soul once said “The world is your oyster”….which is a saying we still do not understand but we are both doing exactly that…making the world our goddamn oyster. Georgie’s overseas venture starts on Friday as she abandons us here at Tune-Up to embark on a 6 week Contiki. Then on the 5th of July, Bec will be trailing closely behind to get a taste of that sweat Euro summer!
We all know what you’re thinking…how will Tune-Up carry on without these wild, crazy, vivacious gals around??? And the answer is…it won’t. There is no way it could possibly live on after we’re gone. In fact we’re certain the bar will simply spontaneously combust and turn to ashes….Ok soooo maybe not. But we’re certain there will be a huge gaping hole without us around.
So to help you all get through this tough time we’ve devised some survival tips for you:
- Drink more…it will help numb the pain that you feel knowing that we’re absent.
- Sing lots of travel-related songs like “Leaving on a Jet place” or “Around the world” so you can live through these songs and imagine you’re holidaying with us.
- If you feel like crying…just let it out. It’s healthy to cry
- Make your friends dress up as us so that it seems like we’re here partying with you
- And last but not least….keep reminding yourself that some day you WILL see us again!
We promise to take LOTS of photos and rub them in all of your faces!! We have to admit that we are going to miss all of our fave Tune-Up customers. Sing for us, drink for us and remain merry without us around. We know our other AMAZING, fun girls will take good care of you in our absence!
Ciao for now!!
Bec and Georgie
